Mrs. Hattie Jean Davis Bess
Mrs. Hattie Jean Davis Bess was born October 11, 1926 to the parentage of the late Mr. Eugene “Sonny Man” Davis and the late Mrs. Lucy Mae Glass Davis. She was a lifelong resident of Americus, GA. Mrs. Hattie Jean joined New St. Paul Baptist Church at an early age and served until her health failed. She attended school in Sumter County and worked with numerous families throughout Americus. Mrs. Hattie Jean was married to the late Mr. Luther Bess. In additon to her husband, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, she is preceded death by her daughter, Dorothy Mathis; brothers, Johnny B. Davis, S. T. Davis and her sister, Myrtice Thomas.
Mrs. Hattie Jean Davis Bess is survived by her loving and devoted daughters: Mrs. Hattie M. Simpson (Wesley, deceased), East Hartford, CT; Mrs. Lola (Jerry) Dent, Atlanta, GA; Ms. Lavonia Bess, Mrs. Rosie (Ronnie) Cole and Mrs. Cynthia (Raymond) McCray, all of Americus, GA; her loving and devoted sons: Mr. Freddie (Juanita) Davis, Orlando, FL; Mr. Luther (Melissa) Bess, Mr. Dennis Bess, and Mr. Tommy L. Bess, all of Americus, GA; a brother-in-law, Mr. Walter Thomas, Bloomfield, CT; her grandchildren: Teresa Davis, Heather Simpson-Jackson, Michael Davis, Amanda Davis, Derrick Bess, Latrena Bess, Lakaya Smith, Laquita Bess, Takeshia Bess, Kelby Mathis, Roderick Mathis, Travis Walters, Manisha Bess, Timothy McCray, Raymond McCray, Jr. and Talisa Moore; great grandchildren, and a host of nieces including a very special and devoted niece and caregiver who was with her as her health failed until God called her home, Koreene Davis, and other devoted nieces including, Ernestine Maddox, Carolyn Davis-Brown, Ruby Harris, Donna Holley and Dendia Spence, nephews, including a special nephew, Mr. Rodney Davis; cousins, other family members and friends also survive.
There are no words to express the undying love, devotion, care, and companionship provided by her daughter, Rosie Cole, who called her “My Angel”.
