May 2019

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Elizabeth A. Larry of Montezuma, Georgia will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church, 415 Hosie Waters Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Interment will follow at Champ Waters Cemetery.

A towering personality who lit up the room with wit and wisdom, and a self-less supporter of the successes of her husband and sons, Elizabeth Larry took her rest on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at home in Montezuma.

Elizabeth Anne Larry (“Liz”), the youngest of the late Henry and Caroline Thornton’s twelve children, was born June 11, 1938 in Montezuma, Georgia. She was educated at the Macon County Training School, graduating in 1956. After graduation, she moved to Chicago to live with her older sister. There she married her one and only true love, Willie J. Larry (“Joe”). To this union, four sons were born.

Before returning to Montezuma, Liz and Joe lived in Washington, DC, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, and Kaiserslautern, West Germany during his military commitment. After returning home, Liz took the lead in raising the four boys until Joe rejoined her full-time in 1983 following his military retirement. They joined Union Baptist Church, and later became members of Magnolia Baptist Church. Liz retired from Southern Frozen Foods in 1992 after 27 years of employment.

Six brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Although her family’s light of hope has gone dim, her glow is carried forth by those she leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband of 61 years, Willie James Larry; a loving sister, Elois Thornton Nicholson, Montezuma, GA; four sons: Jay Larry, Parsippany, NJ; Geoffrey Larry (Bernice), Montezuma; Ronald Larry (Phyllis), Warner Robins, GA; George Larry (Susan), Rochester, NY; thirteen grandchildren, two of whom she raised as her own, Keishya Larry and Keith Larry, both of Montezuma, Georgia; twelve great-grandchildren, devoted nieces, granddaughter, and caregiver, Charlotte Nicholson, Caroline Nicholson Carter (Norman), Sharmillian Larry, and Kimberly Larry, all of Montezuma, Georgia, and a host of other relatives and friends.
