Jossie Mae Carter Holt
Mrs. Jossie Mae Carter Holt was born in Cobb, Sumter County, Georgia on July 5, 1938, to the parentage of the late Mr. Joseph Carter and the late Mrs. Elana Robinson Carter. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she joined the Spring Creek Baptist Church. Jossie served faithfully as a dedicated usher, president of the Spring Creek Baptist Church choir, and in any other capacity inside the church or out in the community. Jossie became a partner in love and marriage to the late Charles Holt, Sr. on August 18, 1954 until death departed them after 34 years of marriage. After raising all seven of her children, she gained employment at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in its Housekeeping and Laundry Department for more than 30 years. After retirement, she attended the Jackson Street Senior Citizens Center until her health failed. She was a beautiful person who was soft-spoken and of few words. She left a forever lasting effect on many. Jossie loved Christ, her family and enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her stepmother, Ms. Janie Lou Brown; a son, Joseph Holt and his wife Geraldine; a brother, Saint John Carter and wife Ida B. and a sister, Georgia Mae White.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Mr. Charles Holt, Jr. and wife Daphne Marie Holt and Mr. George Holt and wife Patricia Smith Holt; four daughters: Mrs. Charlie Mae (Dan) Colson, Mrs. Gussie (Richard) Franklin, Mrs. Carolina Holt Pittman and husband Eric, all of Americus, GA and Evangelist Levonia ( Raymond) Lockett, Leesburg, GA; a brother, Mr. James (Viola) Carter, Philadelphia, PA; a sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Meland (Johnny) Hawkins, Americus, GA; her caregivers, Ms. Shaquita Wilkerson and Ms. Vernisha “Shawn” Alford; 31 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, including a devoted nephew, Charles Chealy, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.
