Betty Jean Monts
Ms. Betty Jean Monts was born on April 25, 1951, in Sumter County, Georgia to the parents of the late Mr. Joe E. Monts and the late Mrs. Bessie Lou Cottle Monts. She attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1970 graduate of A. S. Staley High School. At an early age, she joined the New Mt. Mariah Baptist Church. For many years, she was employed at Manhattan Shirt Company as a seamstress. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and most of all, she loved her grandchildren. She loved to dance and had a beautiful smile. She became a friend to everyone she encountered.
She is preceded in death by three brothers: Arthur Lee Monts, Robert L. Monts and Thomas Monts, and two sisters, Mary D. Rushin and Bertha Mae Rushin.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Rev. Maurice A. Monts, Americus, GA; her daughter, Mrs. Marissa A. (Covery) Hill, Americus, GA; three brothers: Mr. Joe (Ethel) Calloway, Mr. Charlie J. Monts and Mr. Joseph Monts, all of Americus, GA; her grandchildren: Nadia Monts, Jacori Hill and Covery Hill, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.
