Charlene Wright Smith
Born on December 1, 1958, to the parentage of the late Mr. James “Bill” Wright and the late Mrs. Lillie Perl Sims Wright, Charlene our Diva was affectionately known as “Pie”, was the youngest of four children. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County. She was a 1967 honor graduate from Americus High School. She also attended South Georgia Technical College in Americus, Georgia. At an early age, she joined the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. M. C. Jenkins. She was employed with The Tog Shop for several years. For the past 19 years, she was employed with Habitat for Humanity, Americus, Georgia as a data clerk entry operator.
With her nurturing personality, sweet spirit and sense of humor, Charlene touched many lives.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her siblings: Ms. Jessie Pearl Lembrick, Mr. Calvin (Tammie) Wright, Mr. Eddie (Gwendolyn) Wright, all of Americus, GA and Ms. Tammy Green, Smithville, GA; her aunts: Ms. Bettye O. Cunningham, New York, NY and Ms. Rather Stewart, Americus, GA; her uncle, Mr. Ernest (Edna) Sheffield, Atlanta, GA; she also leaves several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, who were all the apple of her eyes: Clarrisa Lembrick, Vennesa Gore, Darek (Kartachia) Wright, MSGT Maricus (SFC Aynna) Flournoy, Tawana (Darin) Bettis, Calvin (Jennifer) Wright, Jr., Jessica Nelms, Carneshqa Trice, Latracy (Dee) Harper, Alison Wright, Matrica Bryant, Carl McDonald, Jr., Tiara Green, COL Johnathan Gore, Rahmad Flournoy, Kennedy Gore, Gordan Wright, Kabob Thomas, Nykerria Wright, Kaibren Sims, Jessya “Kiyah” Nelms, Sanova Gore, Jatrellis Brown, Calvin Wright, III, Donovan Bettis, Jaylen Wright, Kayla Sims, Tatelin Wright, Laila Flournoy, Darrielle Bettis, Destiny Harper, Joshua Wright, Caleb Wright, Journey Wright, Kemarrius Hurley, Alana Flournoy and Landon Flournoy; her god-mother, Minister Corine Frazier; a host of devoted family members and friends, including Juanita Smith, Leslie Green, Pauline Smith, Amelia Williams, Annie Ruth Golden, Joyce Foster, Dinesha Smith, Frances Maddox, Virginia Furlow, Edna Whitehead, Vanessa Powell, Tray Carter, Leola Carter, Elizabeth Robinson, Josephine Simpson, Nathaniel Smith, the AHS Class of 1976, the Birthday Dinner Crew, the Habitat for Humanity Crew, the Mathis Family and “The Tree” also survive.
