Andrew Pless, Sr.

June 29, 1920 – February 10, 2020

Mr. Andrew Pless, who was affectionately known to his family and friends as “Mr. Pless”, was born in Buena Vista, Georgia on June 29, 1920, to the parentage of the late Mr. George Pless, Sr. and the late Mrs. Annie Maude Covington Pless and later raised by the late Mrs. Lizzie B. Pless. Andrew and his twin brother, George were the seventh born of nine children. He attended Marion County Rule Schools, where completing an education then only required for the completion of the eighth grade. At an early age, he was taught “faith and integrity were the life to live” (Hebrew 11: 1). He later united with Evans Chapel C.M.E. Church, Preston, GA in the community of Church Hill and was emerged under the water in a creek used for baptism. He united in Holy Matrimony with his “Sweetheart”, T.Liller Jones Pless, on January 7, 1939. They were happily married for 78 years until his “Sweetheart’s” passing on February 4, 2017 (Romans 7: 2-3). To their union, the Lord blessed them with eight children: five sons and three daughters.

The Andrew Pless, Sr. family relocated to Americus, GA on October 23, 1957 , and united with the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church family. He continued servant-ship in a variety of ministries: Steward, Sunday School Teacher and Church Ward Leader. He received several church Certificates of Appreciation and an Honorary Life Membership from the St. John Masonic Lodge #17. Mr. Pless worked diligently throughout his lifetime as a farmer and a pulpwood technician. He retired from Sumter County Redman Mobile Home Factory, Roundtree Groceries and Harvey’s Super Market, all located in Americus, Georgia.

On February 14th, 2020, the body of a pioneer Christian servant and steward— Andrew Pless, Sr. and the last sibling seed of the George Pless, Sr. Family—is laid to rest.
