Deacon Lonnie Wright Sr.

Deacon Lonnie “Flip” Wright, Sr. of 200 Pryor Cobb Road, Cobb, Georgia died Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

The graveside funeral service will be Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Sue Walker Cemetery in Cobb, Georgia.

Deacon Lonnie Wright Sr., affectionately known as “Flip”, was born August 31, 1946 in Lee County, Georgia to the late Eddie Wright and Zera Mae Floyd Wright. He was educated in the Lee County Public School System and graduated from Lee County High School in 1966. He later attended South Georgia Technical College where he received his certification in Small Engine Repair in 1985. In 1994, he attended Foley-Belsaw Institution where he received certification in Small Engine Service Repair and Advanced Small Engine Repair. Lonnie was employed at Cooper Lighting, formally known as Metalux, as a machine operator and retired after more than 35 years on the job. He was a member of the NAACP, an avid farmer, and loved the outdoors. At an early age, Lonnie joined the New Beulah Baptist Church where he was a faithful member and devoted Deacon.

On March 23, 1972, Lonnie was joined in holy matrimony to the late Mrs. Priscilla Reese Wright. To this union three beautiful children were born. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving son, Lonnie Bernard Wright of Leesburg, GA; two dedicated and caring daughters, Yolanda Wright and Amanda Wright, both of Cobb, GA; one sweet and loving daughter-in-law, Brenda H. Wright. Lonnie also has three wonderful grandchildren, Calvin Johnson of Fitzgerald, GA, Lon’Keria Wright and Lonnie Reese Wright of Leesburg, GA; and one great-grandson, Kaiden Johnson of Fitzgerald, GA.

He also leaves four sisters, Virginia (Archie) Chatmon of Albany, GA, Dorothy (Willie) Sneed of Desoto, GA, Susie (Daniel) Blue of Mullins, SC, and Emma Ruth Moore, of Jersey City, NJ. He leaves five brothers, Reverend Lem (Marie) Wright of Smithville, GA, Bajor Wright and Ronnie Wright of Desoto, GA, Lewis (Constance) Carter of Miami, FL, and Jeremiah (Betty) Carter of Browns Mills, NJ. Along with his siblings, Lonnie also leaves eight sisters-in-law, Beverly Reese Towns, Patricia Reese Fulmore, Eva Mae Reese all of Cordele, GA, Grace Reese of Syracuse, NY, Teresa (Raye) Reese Harvey of McDonough, GA, Imagene Wright, Verda Wright, and Judith Wright all of Jersey City, NJ; four brothers-in-law, James Reese of Lake Tahoe, CA, Patterson (Jan) Reese, Jr. of Syracuse, NY, Lucius (Laura) Reese of Washington, DC, and Clinton Williams Sr. of Miami, FL; one uncle, Lonnie Floyd, Jr. of Miami, FL, and one aunt, Virginia (Willard) Austin of Miami, FL. He also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his New Beulah Baptist Church Family.
